SECRETARY-GENERAL TO DEPART ON ONE-WEEK EUROPEAN TRIP 26 JANUARY

19980123 The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:

On Monday, 26 January, the Secretary-General will be departing on a trip to Paris, London and Davos, Switzerland.

In Paris, he will hold meetings with the President, Jacques Chirac, the Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin, the Foreign Minister, Hubert Vedrine, and the President of the Senate, Rene Monory.

In London, he will meet with the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the European Union, Robin Cook.

In Davos, the Secretary-General will attend the World Economic Forum, as well as various sessions of the Forum dealing with global governance issues. He will also meet with business leaders, with a view to enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and the world business community. He will also hold bilateral meetings and consultations with several heads of State and government who are also attending the World Economic Forum.

The Secretary-General will be back in the office on Monday, 2 February.
