COMMISSION ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ELECTS OFFICERS

19971222 NEW YORK, 22 December (DESA) -- At a brief first meeting of its sixth session this morning, the Commission on Sustainable Development elected Cielito Habito (Philippines) as its Chairman.

The Commission also elected the following as its Vice-Chairmen: Rogatien Biaou (Benin), Marta Galindo (Colombia) and Michael Odevall (Sweden). A fourth Vice-Chairman, from the East European Group of States, is to be elected at a later date. One of the Vice-Chairmen will also serve as the Rapporteur.

The Commission will meet next at a date to be announced in the Journal.
