PREPARATIONS UNDER WAY FOR UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ON URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN HARMONY WITH ENVIRONMENT CORRECTION

In Press Release DEV/2177 of 5 December 1997, the second paragraph on the first page should read:

"Today, the combined technical and organizing committee for the Conference held its third meeting, under the co-chairmanship of Nitin Desai, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, and the Vice-Governor of Tokyo, Masami Higaki. There was also an exchange of views with the Governor of Tokyo, Yukio Aoshima, on matters related to the Conference."

The second complete paragraph on page 2 should read:

"Vice-Governor Higaki said progress in the preparations for next year's conference was the result of contributions from various United Nations agencies -- including Habitat, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the United Nations University -- and he anticipated the participation of more of them."
