NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN DECEMBER

19971201 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies for December:

Security Council

Fernando Berrocal Soto (Costa Rica) succeeds Qin Huasun (China) as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Major-General Chen Fuyuan (China) succeeds Vice-Admiral John Scott Redd (United States) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
