SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS MANDATE OF PREVENTIVE FORCE IN FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA UNTIL 4 DECEMBER

19971128 The Security Council this morning extended the mandate of the United Nations Preventive Deployment Force (UNPREDEP) for four days, until 4 December, by unanimously adopting resolution 1140 (1997).

The Security Council is expected to meet again next week to further consider the extension of UNPREDEP, which is deployed in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

The meeting was called to order at 11:44 a.m. and adjourned at 11:49 a.m.

The text of resolution 1140 (1997) reads as follows:

"The Security Council,

"Recalling its resolution 1110 (1997) of 28 May 1997,

"1. Decides to extend the mandate of the United Nations Preventive Deployment Force for an additional period terminating on 4 December 1997;

"2. Decides to remain actively seized of the matter."
