ELISABETH REHN APPOINTED SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

19971126 Secretary-General Kofi Annan today announced the appointment of Elisabeth Rehn of Finland as his Special Representative and Coordinator of United Nations Operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with effect from 16 January 1998.

Since 1995 Ms. Rehn has been serving as United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Situation of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Croatia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. From 1995 to 1996 she was a member of the European Parliament. Prior to that, she served as Minister for Defence of Finland from 1990 to 1995 and as Minister for Equality Affairs from 1991 to 1995. Ms. Rehn was a member of the Finnish Parliament from 1979 to 1995.
