INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINIAN PEOPLE TO BE OBSERVED AT HEADQUARTERS ON 1 DECEMBER
19971125A solemn meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will be held on Monday, 1 December, to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Invitations to address the meeting have been extended to the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, a representative of the Palestinian Authority, the Chairman of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories, several intergovernmental organizations, and the International Coordinating Committee for Non-Governmental Organizations on the Question of Palestine.
The proceedings will be reported in a special bulletin of the United Nations Division for Palestinian Rights.
The International Day is observed annually in accordance with General Assembly resolution 32/40 B, adopted in 1977. All Member States, United Nations bodies and specialized agencies, observers and non-governmental organizations are invited to attend the meeting.
In further commemoration of the International Day of Solidarity, the Committee has arranged the screening of a series of films during the week, beginning 1 December, at 1 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium.
In addition, a cultural exhibition entitled "At Home in Palestine", will be opened at 6 p.m. on 1 December, and will be on display until Sunday, 7 December, in the General Assembly Public Lobby.
