NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS PRESIDENT FIDEL RAMOS OF PHILIPPINES TO GIVE RAFAEL M. SALAS LECTURE

President Fidel V. Ramos of the Philippines is to give the seventh Rafael M. Salas Memorial Lecture at the United Nations in New York next Wednesday, 26 November. The title of his address will be: "It Can Be Done ... Population Management through Empowerment and Consensus-Building".

President Ramos will be introduced by Dr. Nafis Sadik, Executive Director, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Secretary-General Kofi Annan will also be present.

The Salas Lecture honours Rafael M. Salas who was the first Executive Director of the UNFPA, from its inception in 1969, until his death in 1987. It will take place at 11 a.m. in the Economic and Social Council Chamber. Representatives of the media are invited.
