NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ALBANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

19971114 Biographical Note Agim Nesho, the new Permanent Representative of Albania to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Nesho served in 1996 as Political Adviser to Albania's Prime Minister, and in 1995 as the Acting President of the Albanian Institute for International Studies. In 1993, he was the Director of the Albanian Foundation for European Affairs.

In addition to his diplomatic appointments, Mr. Nesho has held several academic posts, beginning in 1982 at the Institute of Informatics of the Academy of Science in Tirana. For nearly a decade, Mr. Nesho worked at the National Centre for Scientific and Technological Information and Documentation at the Academy of Science, first as its Deputy-Director, from 1985 to 1989, then as its Director General until 1992. Mr. Nesho has also pursued professional careers in engineering and law.

Following his attendance at the University of Cluj-Napoca, in Romania, Mr. Nesho received a degree in electrical engineering and then his law degree from the University of Tirana. He also holds a Doctorate in Engineering from that University.

Mr. Nesho was born in Tirana in 1956.
