19971031 Following is a statement attributable to the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General welcomes the resumption of the peace talks on the Sudan, sponsored by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). He expresses his hopes that the participants in the talks will find a political solution to this long-standing conflict in the Sudan.
