SECRETARY-GENERAL APPALLED BY BOMB ATTACK IN SRI LANKA

19971015 Following is the text of a statement attributable to the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General is appalled by the news of the bomb attack in Colombo, Sri Lanka, this morning and the resulting loss of life and destruction of property.

The Secretary-General strongly condemns this terrorist attack, which targeted civilian facilities. He extends his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.
