NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN SEPTEMBER

19970829 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 September:

Security Council

Bill Richardson (United States) succeeds Sir John Weston (United Kingdom) as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Major-General Aleksandr N. Tishchenko (Russian Federation) succeeds Major- General Gerard de Bastier de Villars de Bez d'Arre (France) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
