NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN AUGUST

19970731 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 August:

Security Council

Sir John Weston (United Kingdom) succeeds Peter Osvald (Sweden) as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Major-General Gerard de Bastier de Villars de Bez d'Arre succeeds Major- General Chen Fuyuan (China) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
