NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL TO HOLD GRADUATION CEREMONY IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY HALL ON 20 JUNE

19970618

The 1997 United Nations International School (UNIS) graduation will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, 20 June, in the General Assembly Hall. Secretary-General Kofi Annan will address the UNIS Class of 1997.

This year's graduating class of 101 young men and women represents 52 different nations and cultures. These and other students at UNIS have developed the ability to transcend political, geographical and cultural boundaries with mutual respect and caring for one another, truly demonstrating the meaning of peaceful coexistence.

The UNIS is an independent, coeducational elementary and secondary school located on two campuses -- at 25th Street along the East River in Manhattan and in Jamaica Estates, Queens. It serves a wide range of families living in the New York metropolitan area, including many affiliated with the United Nations and the city's international community.
