NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF MAURITANIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
19970613 Biographical NoteMahfoudh Ould Deddach, the new Permanent Representative of Mauritania to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Before assuming his current post, Mr. Ould Deddach served as his country's Ambassador to Senegal (1993-1996). Prior to that, he was Mauritania's Minister of Rural Development and Environment (1992-1993).
Mr. Ould Deddach was elected Senator of the Department of Bassikounou on 3 April 1992. From 1989 to 1992, he also served as a technical adviser to the Minister of Trade.
Mr. Ould Deddach began his career as an assistant lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Nouakchott (1984-1992), where he also served as Director of the Centre of Studies and Research.
Mr. Ould Deddach received his a diploma in political science from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium and also holds a Master of Laws degree. He also studied at the Military Academy at Meknes, Morocco.
Born in 1954 in Bassikounou, Mr. Ould Deddach is married and has seven children.
