NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BULGARIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

19970528 Biographical Note

Philip Dimitrov, the new Permanent Representative of Bulgaria to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

A former Prime Minister of Bulgaria between 8 November 1991 and 30 December 1992, Mr. Dimitrov was a Member of the National Assembly from 1993 to 1996 and, in 1996, of the National Executive Council of the Union of Democratic Forces, the ruling party of which he was President between December 1990 and December 1994.

Before leading the parties, the new Permanent Representative practised law from 1979 to 1990. In addition to pursuing a legal profession, Mr. Dimitrov has written some novels.

Mr. Dimitrov was born in Sofia on 31 March 1955. He graduated with a Doctorate degree in Law from the St. Kliment Ohridski University, Sofia, in December 1977.

Married to Elena Dimitrova since 1988, he speaks English, French and Russian.
