NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF LIBYA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
19970402 Biographical NoteAbuzed O. Dorda, the new Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
Before assuming his current post, Mr. Dorda served, from 1994 to 1995, as Assistant Secretary of the General People's Congress. From 1990 to 1994, he was Secretary of the General People's Committee.
Mr. Dorda was the Secretary of the People's Committee for the Municipality of Al-Jabal Al-Gharbi from 1986 to 1990. He was also the Secretary of the General People's Committee for Agriculture (1982-1986) and for Economy (1979-1982).
From 1976 to 1979, Mr. Dorda served as Libya's Minister of Municipalities, after serving as an Under-Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1974 to 1976.
Mr. Dorda was his country's Minister for Information and Culture from 1972 to 1974. He also served as the Governor of the Misurata Province from 1970 to 1972.
Prior to his diplomatic career, Mr. Dorda was a university lecturer in history and the sciences from 1965 to 1970.
Mr. Dorda received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Benghazi University in 1965.
Born in Rhebat, Libya, on 4 April 1944, Mr. Dorda is married and has five children.
