GENEVA, 24 March (UN Information Service) -- The Ad Hoc Group of States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction held its sixth session at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, from 3 to 21 March.

During the three-week meeting, the Ad Hoc Group discussed the intensification of its methods of work, as well as how to move to a negotiating format in order to fulfil its mandate. Significant progress was made in the identification of potential basic elements to be included in a verification protocol to the Convention. It is expected that the first draft of a rolling text for a protocol will be submitted for consideration at the next session of the Ad Hoc Group, which will take place in Geneva from 14 July to 1 August.
