NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN FEBRUARY

19970131 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 February:

Security Council

Njuguna M. Mahugu (Kenya) succeeds Hisashi Owada (Japan) as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Major General Chen Fuyuan (China) succeeds Vice Admiral John Scott Redd (United States) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
