       NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF NAMIBIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Martin Andjaba, the new Permanent Representative of Namibia to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.


Mr. Andjaba most recently served his Government, from 1990 to the present, as Chief of Protocol.  Prior to that, in 1989, Mr. Andjaba was Chief of Protocol of the Directorate of Elections of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) in Windhoek.


Before his repatriation to Namibia with SWAPO in 1989, Mr. Andjaba served, from 1984 to 1989, as Senior Coordinator at the Department of Foreign Affairs of SWAPO, based at the Organization's provisional headquarters in Luanda, Angola.  From 1986 to 1989 he served as Secretary of the Africa Group of Ambassadors in Luanda.


From 1981 to 1983, Mr. Andjaba served as a General Service Officer at the United Nations Institute for Namibia, with responsibilities for protocol, transport, procurement, material management, clearing and forwarding.


In 1981, he obtained a Diploma in Public Administration and Management at the United Nations Institute for Namibia, focusing on historical, political and cultural studies.  The following year he attended a one-month course on materials management at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.


In 1989, Mr. Andjaba obtained a Professional Certificate in diplomacy at the Foreign Service Academy, in Lagos, Nigeria.  He attended the First Diplomatic Course at the University of Namibia in 1990.


Born on 17 December 1957, in Ontokolo, Northern Namibia, Mr. Andjaba is married and has four children.
