     NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF KYRGYZ REPUBLIC PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Zamira Eshmambetova, the new Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations, presented her credentials today to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.


From 1995 until her appointment, Ms. Eshmambetova worked as a Political Officer in the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) and as a Civil Affairs Officer in the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH).  At that time, she was Head of the Ilidza Field Office and of the Sarajevo District Office, Region South.


Ms. Eshmambetova was her country's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1994 to 1995, a position she was appointed to after serving as the Head of the Department of Western Europe in her country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1994).  Prior to that, she served as Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (1993-1994).


Before her foreign service assignments, Ms. Eshmambetova held several academic positions from 1977 to 1994.  She was Head of the English Chair at Osh Pedagogical Institute, Kyrgyzstan (1984-1992); Senior Lecturer at the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute, Almaty, Kazakhstan (1983-1984); Lecturer-Researcher at Moscow University (1978-1979); and Lecturer at Osh Pedagogical Institute (1977-1978).


Ms. Eshmambetova holds a Master of Arts degree in English Philology from Moscow State Pedagogical Institute (1977) and a Doctorate in Philological Hermeneutics from Moscow University from (1983).  She was a Fulbright Scholar based in Austin, Texas, in 1993.


Born in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, on 31 January 1955, Ms. Eshmambetova is divorced and has one son.
