NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN JANUARY

19961231 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 January:

Security Council

Hisashi Owada (Japan) succeeds Francesco Paolo Fulci (Italy) as President of the Security Council.

Military Staff Committee

Vice Admiral John Scott Redd (United States) succeeds Rear Admiral David Anthony James Blackburn (United Kingdom) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
