SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS ACT OF VIOLENCE AGAINST ICRC WORKERS

19961217 The following was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

I have learned with shock of the attack this morning on seven members of the International Committee of the Red Cross working near Grozny, in the Republic of Chechnya of the Russian Federation.

I condemn this act of violence upon people who sought only to alleviate suffering and protect the vulnerable. I offer my most sincere condolences to the families and governments of those who were killed and wounded in this savage attack.
