YUGOSLAV SANCTIONS TERMINATED

19961002 The following statement was issued today by Ambassador Juan Somavía (Chile), Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 724 (1991) concerning Yugoslavia, on behalf of the members:

On 1 October 1996, the Security Council adopted resolution 1074 (1996), by which it decided, inter alia, to terminate, with immediate effect, the measures referred to in paragraph 1 of resolution 1022 (1995), thus ending sanctions imposed on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Bosnian Serb party under the previous relevant resolutions of the Council. The Chairman of the Committee brings this action by the Council to the attention of all governments and others concerned for necessary action.

In accordance with resolution 1074 (1996), the Committee will be dissolved once its report to the Security Council on its activities has been finalized. Members of the Committee intend to finalize the report in the immediate future.
