NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS PRESIDENT OF UNITED STATES TO VISIT HEADQUARTERS ON 24 SEPTEMBER

The President of the United States, William J. Clinton will visit United Nations Headquarters on Tuesday, 24 September 1996, to sign the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and to address the General Assembly.

The President and his party will arrive at the Delegates' Entrance at 9 a.m., and be received by Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali. After conferring with the Secretary-General, President Clinton will meet with the President of the General Assembly, Razali Ismail (Malaysia), in his office.

At 9:26 a.m., the President will proceed to the Trusteeship Council for the signing ceremony of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. After a short statement by the Secretary-General, United Nations Legal Counsel, Hans Corell, will explain the signing procedure and then invite the President to the signing table. After the signing of the treaty, President Clinton will leave the Trusteeship Council and retire to a private office.

At 10 a.m. President Clinton will be called upon to address the General Assembly. Following his speech, the President will proceed to the First Floor and leave Headquarters by the Delegates' Entrance.
