NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF ETHIOPIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Duri Mohammed, the new Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

From 1991 to 1995, Mr. Mohammed served as the Minister for Planning and Economic Development of Ethiopia.

He was a technical advisor to the Africa Division of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) (1990-1991), and the Executive Director of the African Center of Applied Research and Training in Social Development of the Economic Commission for Africa (1985-1990).

Mr. Mohammed was the President of the Addis Ababa University (1976- 1985), and served concurrently as Chairman of the Institute of Development Research and Head of the Department of Economics of the University (1966- 1968).

The author of many research papers and publications, Mr. Mohammed obtained a doctorate in economics from the University of Reading, United Kingdom, in 1970, and was a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom (1991-1992).

Born on 15 July 1936, Mr. Mohammed is married with children.
