NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF RWANDA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Gideon Kayinamura, the new Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

Mr. Kayinamura has been Rwanda's Ambassador to the United Kingdom since 1994. Prior to that, he served as the Head of the International and Intra- African Cooperation Division of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in Addis Ababa (1990-1994), as Counsellor of the OAU Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations (1987-1990), as the Deputy Director of the Permanent Office of the OAU in Brussels (1984-1987), and as Coordinator in the OAU Department of Economic Development and Cooperation in Addis Ababa (1980-1984).

Mr. Kayinamura has contributed to several OAU publications, including the Lagos Plan of Action. He has also made contributions to the preparation of the United Nations Programme of Action for African Economic Recovery and Development and the United Nations New Agenda for the Development of Africa in the 1990s. In addition, he has attended summits and conferences of the OAU Council of Minister (1980-1994), as well as sessions of the United Nations General Assembly (1987-1990).

Mr. Kayinamura obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi in 1971.

Born on 12 November 1945, he is married and has four children.
