NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF DOMINICAN REPUBLIC PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
19960717Roberto B. Victoria, the new Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
Mr. Victoria has been the General Manager of Sacos and Tejidos Dominicanos, a national textile company based in Santo Domingo, since 1970. During that time, he was also the Secretary of State of the Land Commission (1970-1972), an assistant to the President of the Dominican Republic (1972- 1977), and Deputy Financial Secretary of San Rafael, a State insurance company (1975-1978).
He served as Economic Adviser to the Director-General of the Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Estatales (1977-1979), Executive Vice-President of Préstamos Cómodos, a private finance company (1982-1989), and Special Adviser to the Dominican Consulate in New York (1991-1995).
Mr. Victoria has been a political columnist for a number of national and international newspapers, including Ultima Hora in Santo Domingo, since 1975, and El Universal and The Dominican Times in New York, since 1989. He has published several essays on economic and political issues, as well as two books: Colón: Génesis del Crimen en América, and Los 10 Mandamientos de Balaguer.
Mr. Victoria obtained a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Miami in 1962 and a bachelor's degree in economics from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in 1968.
Born on 20 August 1941 in Santiago, Dominican Republic, he is married and has four children.
