GREECE AND FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA AGREE TO CONTINUE DIRECT DISCUSSIONS IN AUGUST

19960711 The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

Pursuant to the Interim Accord of 13 September 1995, representatives of Greece and of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia met on 11 July with the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General, Cyrus Vance. That was their sixth round of talks. The Greek side was represented by the Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Ambassador Christos Zacharakis. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia was represented by Ambassador Ivan Tosevski. The parties continued to exchange views in the context of article 5 of the Interim Accord. Both parties agreed to continue their direct discussions under Mr. Vance's auspices towards the end of August.
