SECRETARY-GENERAL EXTENDS SYMPATHY TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN YEMEN

19960702 The following was issued yesterday, 1 July, by the Spokesman for the Secretary-General:

Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali is deeply saddened to learn of the toll in lives taken by the floods that recently struck Yemen causing extensive damage to many villages, towns and cities across the country.

The United Nations system is taking all the necessary measures to assist in alleviating the hardship that has resulted from this tragedy.

The Secretary-General extends to the people of Yemen and particularly to those who have suffered losses, his deepest sympathy.
