1995 UNITED NATIONS "BASIC FACTS" ISSUED IN RUSSIAN
19960620 A Russian version of the 1995 edition of "Basic Facts about the United Nations" has been issued in Moscow by Yuridicheskaya Literatura, the publishing house of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation. The 5,000-copy edition marks the first issuance by a Russian commercial publisher of a United Nations publication.The book was produced for and on behalf of the United Nations in a joint venture between the Department of Public Information (DPI) and the publisher, which specializes in political and legal texts and is part of the President's Office. The United Nations Information Centre in Moscow provided support and assistance to the initiative, which originated as part o the activities surrounding the United Nations fiftieth anniversary.
The reference book, issued by DPI every two years, provides an overview of the activities and structure of the United Nations and its specialized agencies. The Russian publisher was responsible for the translation of the text and its distribution throughout the Russian-speaking world. The book is also available at the United Nations bookstores in New York, Geneva, and Vienna.
