SYSTEM OF NATIONAL ACCOUNTS, 1993, RELEASED ON CD-ROM

19960612 NEW YORK, 12 June (DESIPA) --The System of National Accounts, 1993 (SNA), a new set of international guidelines for national accounts, was released today in CD-ROM format. Previously available as a 700-page book, SNA-CD is the first publication of international statistical standards on CD-ROM.

The publication provides fundamental standards for countries to compile their national accounts and related economic statistics, including gross domestic product, government expenditure, and international trade and financial flows. The CD format allows ready electronic access and search facilities for the hundreds of definitions, tables and accounts used in national accounting. Its compact size and non-proprietary software make it portable and permits its use by countries and specialists worldwide.

The guidelines and CD were prepared jointly by the Statistical Office of the European Community (Eurostat), the International Monetary Fund, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United Nations Statistics Division and regional commissions, and the World Bank, using software developed by the Statistics Division.

SNA-CD runs on Windows 3.1 or higher, on a standard PC 386 or higher with compact disk drive. It can also be installed on a local area network.
