SECRETARY-GENERAL OFFERS SYMPATHY TO BANGLADESH TORNADO VICTIMS

19960515 This is the text of a message sent today by Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali to the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Abdur Rahman Biswas:

I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the toll taken by the tornado that struck northern Bangladesh on Monday. I wish to assure you that the United Nations system stands ready to assist in alleviating the hardship that has resulted from this tragedy.

I extend to you, to the people of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, and particularly to those who have suffered losses, my deepest sympathy at this time of sorrow.
