DECISIONS OF LIBYAN SANCTIONS COMMITTEE AT ITS SIXTY-EIGHTH MEETING HELD ON 30 APRIL
19960503 The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 748 (1992) concerning Libya issued the following statement today concerning decisions taken at its meeting of 30 April:The Chairman briefed the Committee on his meeting with the Permanent Representatives of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya and Saudi Arabia, held in accordance with a decision taken at its sixty-seventh meeting, concerning Libya's unauthorized flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, which transported Libyan pilgrims to perform the Haj, in violation of Security Council resolution 748 (1992).
The Committee also considered a request from Libya, made on behalf of the Libyan Permanent National Relief Commission, to transport humanitarian aid to Lebanon on a Libyan Arab Airlines flight. The Committee, while sympathizing with the humanitarian nature of the request, was of the opinion that other means of transportation could be used and therefore was unable to accede to this request.
The Committee approved the text of a note verbale to be addressed to all Member States, drawing attention to their obligations under Security Council resolution 748 (1992), as requested for in the Statement by the President of the Security Council (S/PRST/1996/18) of 18 April 1996.
