NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN MAY

19960430 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 May:

SECURITY COUNCIL

Qin Huasun (China) will succeed Juan Somavia (Chile) as President of the Security Council.

MILITARY STAFF COMMITTEE

Brigadier General G. de Bastier de Villars de Bez d'Arre (France) will succeed Major-General Zhou Jiang (China) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
