SECRETARY-GENERAL APPEALS FOR RESTRAINT IN LEBANON

19960412 The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned about the continuing hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border and inside Lebanon, and especially about the attacks on civilians in both countries. According to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Israeli aircraft are carrying out attacks on villages in and around its area of operations. The UNIFIL Force Commander, Major-General Stanislaw Wozniak, has protested to the Chief of the Israeli Defense Force Liaison Unit, expressing concern that this could lead to a further escalation of violence.

The Secretary-General renews his appeal for restraint by all parties.
