PREPARATORY COMMITTEE ON INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT REVIEWS WORK PROGRAMME FOR AUGUST SESSION

19960411 At a brief meeting this morning, the Preparatory Committee on the Establishment of an International Criminal Court reviewed its programme of work for its second session scheduled for 12 to 30 August.

Preparatory Committee Chairman Adriaan Bos (Netherlands) said that, during the session in August, the Committee would discuss questions relating to procedure, fair trial and the rights of the accused. It would also examine the establishment of the international criminal court, the relationship between the court and the United Nations, as well as organizational questions, including the composition and administration of the court.

The Committee would also conduct a second reading of the issues dealt with during the current session, in addition to concluding discussion on outstanding issues and adopting the report of the Committee, he stated.

Statements on procedural matters were made by the representatives of the United States, Cameroon and the United Kingdom.

When it meets again at 3 p.m. today, the Committee will take up consideration of the draft summary of its proceedings at its current session.
