NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS PRESIDENT OF ITALY TO VISIT HEADQUARTERS TOMORROW

The President of Italy, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, will visit Headquarters on Wednesday, 3 April, to address the General Assembly and meet with members of the Security Council.

President Scalfaro and his party will arrive at the Delegates' Entrance at 10:45 a.m. He will be met by the Chief of Protocol who will escort him into the building where Marrack Goulding, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, on behalf of the Secretary-General will officially welcome him.

The President, accompanied by the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Susanna Agnelli; the Permanent Representative of Italy, Francesco Paolo Fulci; and Mr. Goulding, proceeds by special elevator to the second floor to GA-200 where the current Acting President of the General Assembly, Samir Moubarak, Permanent Representative of Lebanon, greets the President. President Scalfaro will confer with the Acting President of the Assembly in the office of the President.

At 11 a.m., President Scalfaro will address the Assembly, after which he will meet with Mr. Goulding in the office of the Assembly President. Following that meeting the President will proceed to the Security Council Chamber where he will be met by the current President of the Council, Juan Somavia, Permanent Representative of Chile, and Chinmaya Gharekhan, Special Political Adviser to the Secretary-General. Mr. Somavia will make a welcoming statement to which the President will briefly reply.

At 11:45 a.m., President Scalfaro and the Italian Foreign Minister, accompanied by Mr. Gharekhan will proceed to the North Lounge where Mr. Goulding joins them for the "vin d'honneur". The Permanent Representative of Italy will introduce the high-level dignitaries present to the President.

The President accompanied by Foreign Minister Agnelli, Mr. Paolo Fulci and Mr. Goulding, proceeds to the First Floor and leaves United Nations Headquarters from the Delegates' Entrance.

The second floor with be closed to from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to all except delegations and staff required to be in the area.

Tickets to the press gallery in the General Assembly and Security Council will be available in room S-250 and will be distributed on a first come first served basis. * *** *
