SECRETARY-GENERAL NAMES MEMBERS OF ADVISORY GROUP ON HABITAT II
19960308 Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali has named 16 persons to advise him on the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II).The first meeting of the advisory group will take place at Headquarters on Monday, 11 March. The Secretary-General will open the meeting, which will also hear from the Secretary-General of Habitat II, Wally N'Dow. The Conference, also known as "the City Summit", will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 3 to 14 June.
Members of the group are: S.T. Adriko, Third Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Public Services, Uganda; Mayor Awn Al-Shawa of Gaza; Oleg Bessonova, Institute of Economics and Industrial Engineering, Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk, Moscow; Charles Correa, First Floor Engineering Centre, Bombay, India; Ihsan Dogramaci, Bilkent University, Ankara; Professor Hans- Peter Durr, Munch, Germany; John Gummer, Secretary of State for the Environment, London; Reiichiro Kitadai, Honorary Member of the Japan Institute of Architects, Tokyo; Jaime Lerner, Governor of Parana State, Brazil; Sankie Mthembi-Nkondo, Minister for Housing, South Africa; Deng Nan, Vice- Chairperson, State Science and Technology Commission, Beijing; Enrique Penalosa, of Colombia, Secretary-General of Habitat I; Qassim Sultan, Director-General, General Municipality of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Francesco Rutelli, Mayor of Rome; Akbar Tandjung, State Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Indonesia; Christian Jean Topalov, Director, d'Etudes en sciences sociales, Paris.
