NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BRUNEI DARUSSALAM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
19960214 Biographical NoteMohammad Daud, the new Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations, this afternoon presented his credentials to Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
Prior to assuming his current post, from September 1993 to May 1995, Mr. Mohammad was his country's Ambassador to Egypt, while concurrently serving as its Ambassador to Morocco. Mr. Mohammad has represented Brunei Darussalam at conferences of the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Inter- Parliamentary Organization in Singapore (1982), Bangkok (1991) and Jakarta (1992). In 1991, he was appointed to Brunei Darussalam's Privy Council -- the highest advisory council to the Government.
Mr. Mohammad has a long military career which began in 1960 and culminated with his retirement in 1990 at the rank of Major-General. Over the course of that period, he held a number of command and staff appointments, and received training abroad. From 1962 to 1962 he was trained in Malaysia. At the mid-point in his military career, he studied at the British Army Staff College in Camberley. His highest military education was earned in 1985 when he spent a year at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.
Working in the international realm as a military officer, Mr. Mohammad participated in the Pacific Armies Management Seminars. During the 1980s, he led Brunei Darussalam's delegation to such seminars in Honolulu, Seoul and Bangkok.
Born in Brunei Darussalam on 1 May 1943, Mr. Mohammad is married and has four children.
