IRAQ SANCTIONS COMMITTEE ADOPTS FURTHER MEASURES TO INCREASE TRANSPARENCY OF ITS PROCEDURES

19960202 On Thursday 1 February, the Security Council Committee, established pursuant to resolution 661 (1990), which is monitoring the sanctions against Iraq, adopted further measures aimed at making its procedures more transparent, as recommended by the Security Council.

The Committee decided, among other measures, that its Chairman after each meeting will brief orally all interested delegations about the Committee's work. The Committee also decided to draw attention of all Member States to its communiqué of 22 August 1995 (Press Release SC/6088-IK/181) outlining the transparency package adopted on 17 August 1995 and which has now been fully implemented. The introduction of those measures are expected to further the process of improving the transparency of the Committee's procedures.
