NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF COTE D'IVOIRE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS
19960117 Biographical NoteYoussoufou Bamba, the new Permanent Representative of Côte d'Ivoire to the United Nations, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan today.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Bamba, since September 1994, served as Ambassador of Côte d'Ivoire to Japan and the Republic of Korea, with residence in Tokyo. He also served as Côte d'Ivoire's Ambassador to Ethiopia and the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in Addis Ababa from 1993 to 1994.
From 1994 to 1995, Mr. Bamba was appointed Chief of Cabinet of the President of the forty-ninth session of the General Assembly, Amara Essy (Côte d'Ivoire).
Mr. Bamba joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abidjan in 1976 as Assistant Director of the Budget. He also served as Assistant Director for International Cooperation (1988-1990) and was later appointed Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Côte d'Ivoire (1990-1993).
In 1982, Mr. Bamba was assigned to Côte d'Ivoire's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, where he served as Counsellor until 1988.
Mr. Bamba also served as Counsellor in Côte d'Ivoire embassy to Canada, in Ottawa from 1980 to 1982.
Born in Abidjan on 31 December 1949, Mr. Bamba holds a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Abidjan (1973). He also graduated in Diplomacy at the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.
Mr. Bamba is married and has five children.
