REPRESENTATIVES OF GREECE AND THE FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA AGREE TO CONTINUE TALKS

19960112 The following statement was issued by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali following the meeting between representatives of Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, held today:

Pursuant to the Interim Accord of 13 September 1995, representatives of Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia met again today, together with the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General, Cyrus Vance. As before, the Greek side was represented by the Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Christos Zacharakis. The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia was represented by Ambassador Ivan Tosevski. The parties had a wide-ranging exchange of views. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere and was fruitful. It lasted more than seven hours.

In response to Mr. Vance's invitation, both representatives agreed to continue their direct discussions under his auspices in New York in the second half of February.
