NEW CHAIRMEN OF UNITED NATIONS SECURITY BODIES IN JANUARY

19951229 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 January 1996:

SECURITY COUNCIL

Sir John Weston (United Kingdom) will succeed Sergey V. Lavrov (Russian Federation) as President of the Security Council.

MILITARY STAFF COMMITTEE

Major General Valery N. Demin (Russian Federation) will succeed Brigadier General G. de Bastier de Villars de Bez d'Arre (France) as Chairman of the Military Staff Committee.
