NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF GUINEA-BISSAU PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

19951220 Biographical Note Adelino Mano Queta, the new Permanent Representative of Guinea-Bissau to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

In diplomatic service to his country, Mr. Queta most recently served as Ambassador to Morocco. In the years before 1994, he served as Ambassador to Spain, Italy and Portugal. Previously as a representative of Guinea-Bissau in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Mr. Queta served as Deputy Executive Secretary for a four-year term beginning in 1985, supervising the departments of Finance, Administration, Legal Affairs, Social and Cultural Affairs and Information.

As Deputy Executive Secretary of ECOWAS, Mr. Queta participated in a number of technical meetings, and in all meetings of the Council of Ministers and summits of Heads of State. He represented ECOWAS at the invitation of organizations like the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the South African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) and the Organization of African Unity (OAU).

Prior to his diplomatic service, Mr. Queta held a number of other Government posts, including State Prosecutor in 1985, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works, Construction and Town Planning from 1984 to 1985, and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Economy and Finance from 1981 to 1984.

Mr. Queta received his degree in social and political sciences in 1971 from the Lisbon Technical University in Portugal. He also received a diploma in overseas administration in 1968, and prior to that, he was schooled at the Lisbon Business Institute.

Born in Mansoa, Buinea-Bissau on 23 June 1941, Mr. Queta is married with three children.
