GREECE, FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA, MEET WITH SECRETARY-GENERAL'S PERSONAL ENVOY

19951219 The following statement was issued by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali following the meeting between representatives of Greece and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on Friday, 15 December:

Pursuant to the Interim Accord of 13 September 1995, representatives of Greece and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia met together today with the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General, Cyrus Vance. The Greek side was represented by the Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Christos Zacharakis. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia was represented by a member of its United Nations mission, Ivan Tosevski. The parties exchanged views on various aspects related to the further implementation of the Interim Accord, in particular Article 5. The meeting took place in a cordial and businesslike atmosphere and lasted for several hours.

Prior to the meeting, Mr. Vance had met separately with each of the two representatives. In response to Mr. Vance's invitation, both representatives agreed to continue their direct discussions under his auspices in New York on 11 January 1996.
