AUTHORIZATION UNNECESSARY FOR SHIPMENTS TO FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF YUGOSLAVIA, WITH SANCTIONS SUSPENDED, SAYS YUGOSLAV SANCTIONS COMMITTEE

19951219

The following statement was issued today by Ambassador Emilio J. Cardenas (Argentina), Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 724 (1991) concerning Yugoslavia, on behalf of the members:

The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 724 (1991) concerning Yugoslavia has been informed that certain countries continue to demand, even after the adoption of Security Council resolution 1022 (1995), the Committee's authorization to ship personal belongings to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro). On the other hand, the Secretariat of the Committee continues to receive applications from States to supply various goods and commodities to that country.

In light of the above, the Committee reaffirms that since the adoption on 22 November of Security Council resolution 1022 (1995), there is no need to notify the Committee or seek its authorization for shipping any items, goods or commodities to, or from, or through, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, as long as the sanctions against that country remain suspended.

At the same time, the Committee notes that the above is not applicable to shipments involving the areas of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the control of the Bosnian Serb forces and reminds those concerned that the supply of arms and military equipment to all countries of the former Yugoslavia remains prohibited.
