NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS `WORLD WOMEN TODAY' PHOTO EXHIBIT TO OPEN 7 DECEMBER

A photo exhibition -- World Women Today -- will open at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, 7 December, in the General Assembly Public Lobby. The exhibition is sponsored by the Department of Public Information and the Permanent Mission of China and will be at Headquarters until 15 December.

The photo exhibition is based on a book, World Women Today, published by the Xinhua News Agency of China, and includes photographs from the four world women's conferences held in Mexico (1975), Copenhagen (1980), Nairobi (1985) and Beijing (1995). It also shows women in various activities in different parts of the world highlighting their contribution to the political, economic, social and cultural lives of their communities and countries. The exhibition will be opened by Under-Secretary-General and Special Representative for Public Affairs, Joseph Verner Reed, and the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, Qin Huasun.
