PALESTINIAN JOURNALISTS RECEIVE CERTIFICATES OF PARTICIPATION IN DPI TRAINING PROGRAMME
19951121 Eight Palestinian journalists from broadcast and print media were presented today with certificates of participation in a United Nations Department of Public Information training programme, by Samir Sanbar, Assistant Secretary-General for Public Information.The training programme, from 6 October to 22 November, was a new Department of Public Information initiative within the framework of the Department's special information programme on the question of Palestine. Its objective was to assist the Palestinian people in building and strengthening their media capability.
In addition to experiencing the historic activities which took place at United Nations Headquarters during the period of the fiftieth Anniversary commemoration, the group of interns attended briefings by officials of the United Nations and United Nations specialized agencies as well as by representatives of media organizations in the United States. The eight journalists also participated in a one-week skills training workshop organized by CNN, in Atlanta; in two weeks of classes to upgrade skills at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs; and in one week of briefings at United States Government branches, in particular the White House, the State Department and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in Washington, D.C.
