SECRETARY-GENERAL MEETS WITH SECOND DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF SAUDI ARABIA

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:

At 5 p.m. today the Secretary-General met His Royal Highness Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Second Deputy Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Yasser Arafat, also attended the meeting.

They reviewed the financial crisis of the United Nations, the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the latest developments in the Middle East peace process. The Secretary-General apprised the Deputy Prime Minister of United Nations assistance to the Palestinian people in Gaza, which was being supervised by his Special Coordinator Terje Larsen.

The Deputy Prime Minister, on behalf of Saudi King Fahd, expressed his full support for the United Nations and all its specialized agencies involved in development. The Secretary-General thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for his presence in New York to participate in the special commemorative meeting of the General Assembly marking the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations.
